The DMA Partners with Race Equality Matters
15 Jan 2021
The DMA is committed to driving greater diversity and inclusion in the UK data and marketing industry.
Through our Diversity and Inclusion work, we’ve published research into issues such as gender and sexuality, ethnicity and race and disability and health to build a picture for our Members of the key challenges facing the creation of a more diverse, inclusive, rich and successful data and marketing landscape.
“Diversity and inclusion are key tenets of intelligent marketing that puts people first. In order for our industry to better serve the customer, it is vital that the workforce is truly representative of them – something that’s front and central to the DMA ethos,” says Rachel Aldighieri, Managing Director, DMA.
And now we are a Founding Partner of Race Equality Matters (REM), an alliance that will help push our initiatives forward, and empower our Members to meet the challenges of building a better industry.
Race Equality Matters (REM) was formed in response to the Black Lives Matter Movement to turn declarations of commitment and support from organisations and individuals into meaningful change in racial equality both in the workforce and in society.
REM have developed a number of initiatives to address this, so please read on to find out more and discover how to get involved.
The Big Promise
Created in collaboration with senior leaders, race network chairs and race experts, The Big Promise is an organisational commitment to action not just words.
Individuals and / or organisations make a public commitment, which is measurable and to which they will be held accountable, to create a positive change.
Choose from seven meaningful actions and form a bridge between lived experience, investment and decision making.
Safe Space
REM is not a talk shop.
It inspires change by creating solutions and working with organisations to implement them.
Safe Space will provide a protected environment to enable brave conversations, which may otherwise be avoided as too uncomfortable, in order to generate action-focussed, meaningful and tailored outcomes, driven by the people they matter to.
Virtual Badge Campaign
We know the importance of people feeling united, and part of a movement that creates change, hence why we now have the Race Equality Matters virtual badge campaign.
We have the green ribbon for Mental Health Awareness.
We have the rainbow for Pride.
We have the pink ribbon for Breast Cancer Awareness.
But there isn’t one for race equality.
Now there is.
Race Equality Week (1-7 February)
With Race being such a pertinent issue being discussed across the UK, in offices, shop floors and board rooms, there is a need to pull everything together and to maximise impact of a UK wide collaboration.
Taking place on 1-7 February 2021, Race Equality Week will be a UK-wide initiative to unite organisations and individuals in activity to address issues affecting ethnic minority employees.
The DMA will contribute during this week, so come and join us to learn more about biases in tech and data.
You will also gain access to tools and resources to facilitate conversation, activity and commitment to change.
It is good for business; it is good for your employees and it is good for your community.
Get involved by registering your details below.
