How to Overcome Creative Roadblocks

When you work in a creative role, it's common to stumble upon creative roadblocks from time to time.

Here are some tips and tricks to help you get back on track.

Look up

Maybe don't spend your entire commute on your phone.

Look up; look at people; look at the trees; look around you. You'll find a lot more inspiration than you think.

Control the noise

We've all been there. You're trying your hardest to focus but you just can't drown out the noise around you (or the noise in your own brain).

Clear your head. Try writing a list of everything that's on your mind to free up some space to think.

Drown out your surroundings. Plug in and listen to something soothing instead - get ready to be inspired.

Positivity, please

Keep your spirits up. Constructive criticism is part of the game. Just keep your head up, and go with the flow.

Every time you work through something, you learn something. Take those learnings forward, and keep working through it.

Make a move

According to studies, spatial distance can have a big impact on creativity.

What does that mean? It means that changing your location can trigger a burst of inspiration.

It's a pretty good reason to go for a walk in the park or work in a nearby cafe.

Take a break

Have a KitKat. No, but really... Take a day or two off to do something you enjoy.

Relax your mind. Head to an exhibition. Take a walk. Look around. Your brain will take it all in, and it may even give you an advantage when you take on your next brief.

Good luck conquering your creative roadblocks. Let us know how you get on.
