Buzz Marketing, a team formed of six students from Northumbria University, were crowned winners of 2023’s DMA Talent Marketing Challenge in July, claiming the £1,500 grand prize for their efforts.

DMRi provided the brief, which challenged students across the UK to create a 24-month B2B marketing communications acquisition and retention plan to launch DMRi's brand new competition creation toll, The Entry Platform.

Finalist Alie Bendoy told us that through working on the brief they’ve "gained valuable knowledge in measuring metrics for marketing campaigns” and feel confident going forward in their career knowing they “can nail the metrics!”.

Five teams were selected to pitch their campaigns at DMRi’s offices in Sheffield, to a panel of judges from DMRi, formed of Sara Watts (Director/Founder), Laura Hall (Account Director), John O'Connell, Caitlin Pellegrina (Digital Marketing Manager) and Luke Davies (Account Manager).

We asked the finalists how they found pitching their work, and Shannon Hebron told us "You present at university but it's not often you get to present in a business context to complete strangers, but it's something that happens a lot in marketing so doing this was really important”.

After comparing each campaign, the judges selected Buzz Marketing as the victors, a team formed of six Marketing Management Undergraduate students studying at Northumbria University; Aliya Fox, Alie Bendoy, Katy Gilbert, Lucy Coates, Shannon Hebron and Stephanie Boast.

Market Buzzers from Northumbria University were selected as runners up and each team member received a £25 voucher of their choice. The other finalists were Alpha from Sheffield Hallam University, Panic! from Northumbria University, and Brand Boosting Marketing from Sheffield Hallam University.

We gave every finalist a 12-month DMA Student Membership, to recognise their hard work.

We’ve built our Student Membership to make students as employable as possible. They have the opportunity to build on their academic studies by professionalising their knowledge through:

  • The Award in Marketing and Award in GDPR, both accredited by the IDM.
  • A library of DMA Award-Winning campaign case studies, DMA Webinars & Events, DMA Best Practice Guides, and other industry resources ensuring they know the most up to date marketing techniques.

We’ll be launching 2024’s challenge this September. If you want to know when the brief is live, and be kept up to date with everything going on at DMA Talent, click here to get all our latest news and upcoming opportunities delivered directly to your inbox.
