What is day-to-day life like as an Account Manager, what are the main responsibilities, and what skills do you need to excel?

We chatted to Tara Peters, who's an Account Manager at Spindogs, and Ellie McBeath, who's an Account Manager at LMC, to find out what day-to-day life is like in their roles.

Role Profile

As an Account Manager, you'll be the person in charge of managing the company's relationships with its customers. It'll be your responsibility to sustain long-term relationships with a group of customers and stay with customers for the entire duration of their relationship with the company. Tasks which you'll undertake include project management, strategic planning, product design, service application,support of sales, logistics, and marketing. Your aim is to maintain clients or accounts for as long as they're with the company.

Key responsibilities

- Identifying new opportunities to build business with existing clients

- Generate sales among client accounts

- Work as the established point of contact for all your assigned clients

- Predict and track client account metrics

- Manage projects within client relationships, working to carry out clients objectives while simulataneously meeting the company goals and values

- Discuss with staff members working with the same client to ensure consistent service

- Work with sales team in order to reach prospective clients

- Keep transactional records of each client

- Developing and maintaining long-term relationships with accounts

- Ensure clients receive their requested services in good time and to a high standard

- Be able to understand and communicate client needs and demands to your colleagues and wider teams

Requirements

If you are to be successful as an Account Manager, you should have a good track record in developing a portfolio of accounts

Have excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as be organised and efficient in your work

Must be outgoing and have confidence as well as a proven ability to build rapport and ability to excel in team-based environment

Experience of marketing desirable
