The one-year amnesty on enforcement of the EU e-Privacy Directive (or cookie law) ended on 26 May 2012. The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) now has the power to fine companies up to £500,000 for breaches of the cookie law. Although the ICO doesn’t plan to issue fines from the outset and says it will use formal warnings to encourage organisations to comply.
