Fresh Blood Success Story

We caught up with Tara Peters, Marketing Manager at Paperclip, who attended Fresh Blood in 2017 to find out show it helped her get to where she is today.

Here's what she had to say:

My first encounter with the DMA Talent occurred at their Fresh Blood event in Bristol in November 2017. At the time, I was in my final year at the University of South Wales studying Advertising Design.

Throughout my university degree, I had experienced different internship roles in advertising and marketing, however, I was still trying to learn and understand other positions that could be right for me. While I was preparing to finish my degree, I still had a lot of unanswered questions.

My lecturer encouraged my class to attend Fresh Blood to help us network and prepare us for industry life after university.

I found the event to be a fantastic opportunity to pick the brains of professionals in the industry. I received some valuable advice and was encouraged to network and speak with planners and account handlers in the industry. I took this advice, speaking to several people at the event, and towards the end of the night, I was tapped on the shoulder by the Head of Talent Acquisition at The Specialist Works media agency.

I was later told that my inquisitiveness led him to approach me with an opportunity to get in touch with the media agency. Within a month, I interviewed for a job and by January, I had accepted a position as a Strategic Planning Executive. I started work before I had even graduated, so I am truly grateful for both The Specialist Works and the DMA for believing in me before I had even received my results.

Because of the Fresh Blood event, I had the pleasure of meeting many talented professionals who directed me towards my advertising job out of university with The Specialist Works.

I would advise any student to attend, whether they have a clear direction or not, it’s a fantastic opportunity to network and learn about yourself.

I now work as a Marketing Manager in Cardiff at a start-up where I manage a team of marketers and designers.

Tara will be at our next Fresh Blood event in Bristol on the 20 February sharing her story and answering any questions attendees may have.
