DMA Awards Judge Testimonials

Laura Brady, Director of Marketing and Fundraising, Worldwide Cancer Research

How did you find the experience?
I look forward to the DMA judging every year – the process is always so well organised and designed to maximise impact of judges but ensure the time they have to dedicate is minimal. Condensing the judging into a single session and doing everything in the room together means there’s no up front work, and that you can be totally present and engaged on the day. I always love meeting new people round the table and hearing their thoughts and assessments that may help me see the world and marketing work from a different angle. I always feedback to other judging work I do to highlight how well the DMAs do it!

What would you say to someone who is thinking of applying to judge?
DO IT! It’s the best decision I’ve ever made and I’ve learned so much from the experience (I hope giving some value myself too!). If you’re worried about time commitment and the process eating into your day to day – fear not! You need only attend a single session to do the judging and everything is done in that allotted period. No need to assess applications for days on end.

What was your biggest take away from the experience?
Seeing great work, meeting great people and making a great contribution to data and marketing work in the UK.

What is special about judging for the DMAs
The way DMAs are scored is special. The criteria and simplicity of the framework ensure that the cream rises to the top and judges can cut through pretty easily. You have the chance to see some amazing work and leave the room brimming with inspiration and that feel good factor of giving back to the industry – win win!

Evaluating entries against the DMA Awards' pillars: strategy, creativity, and results really underpins the importance of a holistic approach in crafting impactful campaigns and shows why achieving a DMA Award is such a coveted prize. This is what sets judging for the DMAs apart, the rigorous and comprehensive evaluation process is like no other awards I’ve judged, and the opportunity collaborate with fellow industry experts to identify and honour outstanding work was both educational and inspiring.
