Following Boris Johnson’s appointment as Prime Minister yesterday, the subsequent cabinet reshuffle has placed new MPs in key positions in the Departments of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport; Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and Scotland.

The DMA welcomes the new Secretary of State for DCMS, Nicky Morgan MP. Ms Morgan has a treasury and education background, which will be a valuable asset in linking strategies of skills development in the digital economy.

The announcement of the next Minister for Digital and the Creative Industries is yet to be announced.

The new Secretary of State for BEIS is Andrea Leadsom MP, who made a great impact in her prior role as Leader of the House.

BEIS supporting ministers are Kwasi Kwarteng and Jo Johnson MP.

Replacing David Mundell in the Scotland Office is Alister Jack MP.

Supporting Ministers are yet to be announced.

The DMA looks forward to working with the new Ministers and looks forward to working with them to build world-leading data economies and creative industries.

Similarly, the DMA will lend any and all assistance to new Ministers and the wider government in order to secure a good Brexit deal for the data and marketing industry.

DMA CEO, Chris Combemale said:

“The appointment of these well-respected and capable Members of Parliament to DCMS, BEIS and the Scotland office show the government’s continued commitment to supporting and building the UK’s data economy and wider digital and creative industry.

The DMA has been and will continue to work closely with these departments to ensure that the UK is one of the world’s epicentres of the data industry and that businesses can successfully navigate the challenges of Brexit.

We wish the new Secretaries of State and Ministers well in their new roles.”
