London Fashion Weekend - Step into our world
22 Sep 2014
The Vodafone London Fashion Weekend, the British Fashion Council’s post Fashion Week ‘pop-up’ party for mere mortals was inviting, glamorous and utterly immersive. Well, it was for those who entered the Canon 360 Studio.
I’d read about it in Marketing Week, and on the London Fashion Weekend e-newsletter, so was intrigued ahead of my visit.
Canon are a long-time partner of fashion and London Fashion Week in what is undeniably a great fit for an industry so reliant on the power of image (literally and metaphorically). Canon’s Professional Services works closely with professional photographers and designers to ensure they capture the best images possible at the top fashion weeks around the world.
So, the Canon 360 Studio at London Fashion Weekend was a wonderful experiential dip into the world of the superstar model, with the support of Oculus Rift virtual reality technology, putting fashion fans in the heels of the model.
Wannabe models were taxied, ushered, photographed, pampered, styled and dressed before their virtual strut down the runway under the glare of the fashion media. And it worked, it was a wonderful experience. Thank-you, Canon. Check out #CanonFashion on twitter to hear more about people’s experiences enabled by Canon.
Now, I like the Canon brand, I own a Canon digital SLR camera, and I enjoyed stepping into their world; but the interesting thing is that I’m not sure I’ll experience this again let alone hear from them. OK, so I’m not the prime target (42 year old balding man who mainly wears blue . . .), but where was the data-capture? Where was the opportunity for ongoing dialogue? Where was the opportunity to measure success and drive sales?
So, it wasn’t evident at London Fashion Weekend, but the brand has stated that it planned to reach consumers though its social media channels, and that’s the point, Canon connects with actively engaged consumers who go to the brand because of their quality, stature and the world they hang-out in. It may lack the personal touch, and maybe something for Canon to consider in future, but check it out here:
