Leaflet Distribution: A Biblical Marketing Principle for you

This blog is inspired from a famous parable in the Bible. Before you say it, I am well aware I have taken the parable out of context; however I firmly believe the same principles apply when spreading the good news about your business through leaflet distribution, or the good news about God.

Have a read of this and consider how this applies to your business. It is taken from Luke 8:5-8:

“A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds ate it up. Some fell on rocky ground, and when it came up, the plants withered because they had no moisture. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up with it and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown.”

I will come onto my interpretation for this relating to business, but first lets hear Jesus’ explanation. It is taken from Luke 8:11-15:

“This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God. Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away. The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature. But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.”

Explanation for Business and Leaflet distribution

Now let’s substitute Jesus’ explanation into a business context:
“This is the business meaning of the parable: The seed is your promotional item, such as aleaflet. Those along the path are the ones who see your leaflet, and then distractions come and take away their attention, so that they may not see what you have to offer. Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the leaflet with joy; when they see it they are interested for a while, but in the time they forget. The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who see, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not take action. But the seed on good soil stands for those who are your exact target audience, who see your business, retain it, and by taking action are able to receive your product or service.”

There are many business lessons to be learnt from the Bible, here is just one of them. I hope this simple parable explains how leaflet distribution works. You should never expect that everyone who receives your leaflet will respond, but the more you sow, the more chance you have of reaping those ideal clients.
