Happy Data Protection Day!

Data is driving economic growth in the UK and rapidly changing businesses and even our culture. Just as important as the data is ensuring that people’s personal data is kept safe and secure.

Today’s celebration is timely as data issues have been front-page news like never before. In 2018 the Facebook and Cambridge Analytica scandal hit the headlines, the public started worrying about the impact of political advertising and micro-targeting, and the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) started its own investigation.

A number of high profile data breaches took place and further stoked fears that people had lost control of their personal data.

However, 2018 was also a year of great legislative change with both the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018 coming into force. They challenged organisations to embed data protection principles within the culture of their business.

Forward-thinking companies embraced the change and used the opportunity to transform their approach to data protection and make it a core brand value. A high standard of data protection is an essential part of doing business in the digital era.

The future of marketing is being shaped by the innovative use of data and ever-evolving technology. The DMA’s flagship data protection conference will discuss emerging trends in the use of artificial intelligence, next steps in the adjustment to GDPR and much more.

Our flagship data protection summit welcomes the ICO's executive director - technology, policy and innovation; Simon McDougall, OLIVER, The Guardian and Dentsu Aegis to set the pace on the key challenges we face in 2019, with guidance on life alongside GDPR, Brexit and ePrivacy.

Come along and learn more about the asset that is leading the fourth industrial revolution and shaping the future of marketing.
