Government issues warning for data companies to prepare for no-deal
28 Jan 2019
The UK Government has issued a press release advising businesses who transfer data to-and-from the EU to prepare for a no-deal Brexit.
The release informs businesses of the need to examine the means by which companies process personal data of people inside the EU if the UK leaves without a deal. You can read the full release here.
The DMA is opposed to a no-deal Brexit because it would raise unnecessary barriers to the free flow of data between the EU and UK.
It is imperative that Members of Parliament work to prevent a no-deal Brexit and ensure that the free flow of personal data between the EU and UK is maintained. Personal data is the lifeblood of cross-border EU-UK trade in advertising and marketing.
Nonetheless, to help businesses prepare for all eventualities, the DMA has published a Brexit toolkit which gives information on the legal grounds for processing personal data that businesses will need to rely on in the event of a no-deal. Read the full guidance here.
