Legal and Policy Update - Meet the Regulators

Meet the regulators who are shaping marketing and data policy. The DMA collaborates widely with industry self-regulators and regulators on guidance, codes, and policy to ensure legislation is applied effectively in real-world marketing.

Every DMA member committs to adhering to the DMA Code's principles, including obligations to comply with relevant industry and statutory regulations such as the CAP Codes and the Fundraising Code of Practice.

This session gave clarity on what members needed to do to continue meeting their obligations and maintain compliance. Attendees saw how the regulatory framework operated, heard the DMA's role in shaping it, and each regulator highlighted their priorities, sharing new best-practice guidance.

Why attendees joined:

  • Understand the role of the Data and Marketing Commission in regulating the DMA Code.
  • Gain clarity on the Committees of Advertising Practice and the CAP Codes.
  • Learn how the Advertising Standards Authority enforced the CAP Codes.
  • Hear the latest updates from the Fundraising Regulator and the New Code of Fundraising Practice.
  • Take part in a live Q&A and ask questions directly to the speakers.

Speakers included:

  • Emma Martins, Chief Commissioner, Data and Marketing Commission
  • James Best, Chairman, Committees of Advertising Practice, CAP and BCAP
  • Guy Parker, CEO, Advertising Standards Authority
  • Gerald Oppenheim, CEO, Fundraising Regulator

Why it mattered:
This was the chance to hear directly from the people who set the compliance frameworks members worked by. Attendees gained clarity, stayed compliant, and left with actionable insights that helped them navigate the evolving regulatory environment with confidence.
