What is day-to-day life like as an Events Executive, what are the main responsibilities, and what skills do you need to excel?

We chatted to Siân Pudney, who is currently studying Events Management at Bournemouth University, and is spending her placement year at the DMA as an Events Executive, to find out what day-to-day life is like in her role.

Role Profile

As an Events Executive, you’ll typically work as part of an Events team, reporting into the Events Manager. You’ll thrive on working in a busy environment, so it’s essential that you’re well organised and have a keen eye for detail.

Your role will consist of managing events from conception to close, as assigned by the Event Manager. You will have to ensure the events you are assigned are promoted, planned, and executed to a high standard and manage internal and external stakeholders including sponsors where required.

Key responsibilities

- Manage events from start to end

- Research content for events, including liaison with internal and external stakeholders

- Speaker research and liaison

- Sponsor liaison, ensuring contract value is delivered

- Delegate liaison

- Producing content briefings for event promotion that reflect its meaning and purpose

- Admin task such as answering queries, raising invoices, sending delegates joining instructions, ensuring the events listings are up to date, proof-reading email communications, actively increasing booking numbers, raising POs and legal requests, payment chasing, creating badges, agendas, delegate lists etc.

Requirements

If you are to be successful, you should have a strong interest in events and be familiar with the events lifecycle.

You must have strong communication skills and be comfortable approaching and working with senior industry figures, whether they be speakers or sponsors.

Good writting skills are also desired, and you should have great attention to detail, along with a flexible nature, can do attitude and good initiative.
