Some charities have decided to move to opt-in for their marketing. Is this right for your charity? We explore the costs and benefits of both opt-in and opt-out approaches.

Understand the pros and cons of using opt-in and opt-out approaches to fundraising.

Charities have been quick to adapt to the proposed Fundraising preference Service. Some have taken the decision to adopt an opt-in approach to best protect their customers.

But this is not the only approach available.

For some charities - those who only use traditional marketing channels or who have minimal data, then a relationship based on legitimate interest can be just as valuable as long as the donor understands the options available.

DMA head of preference services John Mitchison will be joined by Sara Thompson, marketing manager at RNLI, which took the decision to move wholesale to opt-in. They will explain:

  • The fundamentals of consent
  • Why some charities have gone 'opt-in'
  • Alternatives to opt-in, including legitimate interest

This webinar, chaired by dotmailer's client services director Skip Fidura will explore the benefits of using both the opt-in and opt-out methods for your charity.

Find out which is more appropriate for your fundraising.
