Combining two of the writer’s favourite pastimes; the written word – and the pub. Join us for an evening made up of pint-sized TED style talks from comedian Mark Dolan, screenwriter Darren Murphy and explorer of stories Dr Jacqueline Johnson.

Hosted in a collection of our favourite traditional London pubs around the Oxford Circus area, rub shoulders with your fellow creatives over a tipple (or three) and get your dose of inspiration for the year ahead, and beyond.

Agenda

4.00pm: DMA House

We kick things off with a welcome speech and instructions for the evening’s goings-ons with the DMA’s writer in residence, Debi Bester.

Debi will then share the location of the first pub, and on we go.

5.00pm: Pub number 1

Facilitated by DataTalk managing director, Tim Drye with speaker, comedian, broadcaster and writer, Mark Dolan.

Dolan is best known as the host of Channel 4’s iconic comedy series Balls of Steel, and has also fronted three series of globetrotting documentaries of The World’s …and Me. He is also a Sunday Times bestseller, with many other accolades to his name.

6.15pm: Pub number 2

Facilitated by Yes&Pepper creative partner, Andy Bolter – our second session takes a closer look at imaginative writing and the concept of words without boundaries.

Speakers include Dr. Jacqueline Johnson, owner of Jacqson Diego and writer, creator and explorer of stories, who has an interest in textual re-presentation. Her fascination with text and its cultural and historical appropriation has led her in various directions, through the fields of literature, history, science, anthropology, performance and art.

Johnson will be speaking on: Re-imaginings: do we actually want words without boundaries? Musing on what we expect when we let our words out into the public domain, the responsibility we have for our words, and whether we are where the meaning lies.

She will be followed by speaker and revered screenwriter, Darren Murphy.

7.30pm: Pub number 3

For our final watering hole of the evening, we pass the baton to you for a deep discussion into verbal identity, asking:

In an age of conversation, can brands own words?

Splitting into small groups, we’ll be looking for different perspectives on how brands should be approaching their visual identity - de-constructing and piecing back together the way we write and eventually drawing some creative conclusions to round up the event with.

Headed up by copy chief, Tony Spong, managing partner, AAR Group, copy chief Vikki Ross and DMA writer in residence, Debi Bester.

One not to be missed - quench your thirst and get creative with some of the best in the bizz, book your spot today.
