UK Government aren't waiting for EU Data Protection reforms

Conversation is hotting-up around the EU General Data Protection reforms, but what many marketers don't realise is that the UK isn't waiting for the EU reforms and is already making changes.
The Government performed a big review of the whole industry and found that the key issues are companies not taking responsibility, the ICO not having a strong enough enforcement stance (because companies are not self-regulating) and the root cause is the buying and selling of data. As a result of this they've given the ICO more powers (as of the 6th of March2015) and they're now in another detailed investigation specifically looking into the buying, selling and use of marketing data.
Changing your websites and how you work takes time, so you need to start investigating, planning and taking those first steps towards these new standards.
