The Communication Workers Union (CWU) – the union that represents frontline Postal staff – has called on its members who collect, sort, distribute and deliver parcels and mail to take strike action on the following days:

  • Friday 26 August 2022
  • Wednesday 31 August 2022
  • Thursday 8 September 2022
  • Friday 9 September 2022

Royal Mail has well-developed contingency plans, but they cannot fully replace the daily efforts of its frontline workforce.

They will be doing everything they can to keep services running and recovering quickly, although customers should expect disruption on these days.

Customers can continue to send their parcels and letters and should post items as early as possible in advance of the strike dates.

Chris Combemale, CEO of the DMA, said:

‘’Disruption to mail and parcel delivery creates yet another hardship for companies seeking to recover from the effects of the pandemic amidst the headwinds of surging inflation and economic instability.

The DMA urges the unions and Royal Mail to reach an agreement to create stability and certainty around direct mail and parcel delivery. It is equally important that Royal Mail delivers a modern service for a modern economy. Seven day a week delivery and same day delivery have become the baseline expectation for consumers shopping online.

If Royal Mail wishes to compete for contracts in the ecommerce sector they must be able to offer Sunday delivery for their customers so they can meet the expectations of their customers.”

Royal Mail will be sharing more information about the impact on specific products and services and advises customers to keep updated by regularly viewing www.royalmail.com/latest-news
