Sara Watts, our Chair, gave an overview of the recent Chairs Day in London and how the North Council are recognised as a multi-channel council who can support, challenge and input into the channel specific council projects. There will be a lot more collaboration on projects and rolling out of research, for example DMA Scotland will come to talk about the Value of Data initiative.

This initiative on the Value of Data, grabbed some attention and input from the attendees. After all, there aren’t many organisations that don’t have data as part of their life blood these days. The breadth of experience and disciplines represented at the meeting ensured that the conversations were truly cross-channel in their perspective.

A general round up of all activity from all councils was shared which led us to talk about a project with the Print Council on how we can support the industry in an ever price driven environment. An action was to discuss with the Mailing Hub to gather their opinions in particular on how we can help in the measurement and evaluation of ROI.

Upcoming events were discussed including DMA Talent’s Neurodiversity Initiative session (November 8th) and the Creative Data Labs (November 29th)

The Customer Engagement regional event comes to Manchester in Feb 2019 and we discussed examples of great customer engagement, great speakers to showcase there and also the possibility of launching the future trends research here.

The afternoon was made even more valuable with 2 interesting presentations from very different organisations but that actually crossed over when the customer experience and the emotions customers feel are taken into account

Lucy Nolan from Dotmailer summarised the Making it Happen 2018 report on the email performance of 100 brands, and Neil McKay from Endless Gain shed some light on the value of emotional analysis in conversion optimisation

Our next DMA North meeting is on November 29th when we welcome Scott Logie, customer engagement director, REaD Group and chair of DMA Customer Engagement Committee. Scott will give us an insight into the customer engagement event coming to Manchester early next year, and also share the latest updates from our Customer Engagement Labs.

We will also hear from Glenn Fisher, direct response copywriter and author, Glen will be sharing his extensive experience of direct-response copywriting
