The DMA offers congratulations to the Conservative Party on their general election victory and commiserations to other political parties who will not feature in the next government. Moreover, the DMA thanks the last government for being a strong actor in Europe in the EU Data Protection Regulation debate and for its hard work fighting for UK industry. The new government will surely carry on in the same vein.

The DMA will be approaching the fresh intake of MP’s very soon and building relationships with new and old government ministers.

In all its dealing with the new government the DMA will reiterate the DMA manifesto pledges:

1) New data protection legislation should balance the concerns of consumers with the interests of business.

2) Continue to negotiate to ensure that the EU Data Protection Regulation is balanced.

3) Make sure the Information Commissioner’s Office has the funding and resources to carry out all its duties effectively.

4) Continue to have a ministerial post responsible for the digital economy.

The DMA hopes that the new government will keep these four pledges in mind and do all it can to support one-to-one marketing.

Fundamental to the UK economic recovery is the marketing and advertising sector and so it is imperative that the governments supports the industry where it needs to but most of all allows business to flourish and boost economic growth in the UK.
