DSIT - Member Input on how UK Data Protection Law Applies to AI
The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) has asked the DMA to collect member input as part of its current review of how UK data protection law applies to artificial intelligence.
This reflects our ongoing engagement with DSIT. Recent member insight has had direct impact on national policy via the Data Use & Access Act and beyond. This is another chance to ensure your real-world experience is reflected in government thinking.
Topics DSIT is examining:
- GDPR requirements that support or complicate AI deployment
- Legal bases for AI training data (e.g. legitimate interest, consent)
- Transparency, fairness, and rights management in AI systems
- International data transfers and regulatory divergence
- Defining controller, processor, and joint responsibilities in AI projects
The DSIT would like to get your responses to these questions. Case studies and operational examples are particularly welcome. Please direct any questions and return your answers by Tuesday 29 October to Michael.sturrock@dma.org.uk.
Thank you for continuing to shape policy through your DMA membership.
